On January 2nd, 2001 started No Doubt on their fifth album. With a happy mood and fresh ideas they started working.

In the first months, they got in Raggae mood and decided, thanks to Tony Kanal to continue creating and recording in Jamaica. This trip was in April. During that visit to Jamaica, recorded No Doubt songs such a Hey Baby & Underneath it All (both became Smash Hits). Along with the recording and written process were other artists involved like : Dave Steward (ex-Eurythmics), Bounty Killer, Lady Saw, The Neptunes/Nerd, Sly & Robbie and Steelie & Clevie.

This recording and written process ended in August and in September mixed the record in London. Witch was during the 9/11 attacks on the WTC. This had to result that the band had to spend that weird period together far from home.

In October recorded No Doubt the first video for Rock Steady, witch was Hey Baby. Also started ND touring with U2. On December 11th, 2001 released Rock Steady. Starting a trip of 74 weeks in the Billboard chart.
