News from NO DOUBT
July 30th, 1998 from Tom Dumont

I haven`t posted here in awhile, I suppose I`ve been delirious from the long recording hours we`ve been putting in. The first seven songs have been recorded, and we`re all quite pleased with the results. We brought in a guy named Paul Buckmaster who created a stricken orchestral arrangement for one song (entitled "Too Late"). We`ll be writing more music during the next few weeks over at Gwen`s house, and we plan to re-enter the recording studio sometime in September to finish up the remainder of our forthcoming CD.

I`ve promising photos here and other complete overhaul, and I must reiterate that the work is well underway and WILL be unveiled within the next month or so. To make the launch of the new content here more interenting, we`ll probably stage a full band chat event to coincide.

For those of you on the No Doubt snail-mail mailing list, you`ll be receiving a new merch catalogue from us in the coming weeks, chock full of new shirt designs and clothing products with our logo on them. We`ve proud to make available top quality merchandise at very reasonable prices(T-shirts start at $10). If you want to recieve such a catalogue, write a note to our Fan Club/mailing list adress: N.D. FRIEND CLUB, PO BOX 8899 ANAHEIM, CA 92812.

I spent my weekend typing so that I could unveil the new, update TOUR HISTORY. This is where you can see a list of every show NO DOUBT has ever played. Ever. Please take a look and reminisce about your favorite shows the way that I like to do.

Also we`re closing in on having seven songs finished in the studio, and perhaps next weekend I`ll learn how to scan and put up some photo`s I`ve taken of the band.

The recording process is going well so far. We`ve pretty much finished the first five songs. They sound both familiar and nothing like anything we`ve ever done before. Our workday in the studio usually lasts about twelve hours. You may be asking yourself: "It look three weeks at twelve hours a day to record just five songs? Why does it take so long?"

It can be explained by magic of multi-track tape and overdubbing. I compare the process to that of painting, where each color and each stroke go onto the canvas one by one. Performances are sometimes totally live, sometimes carefully added afterwards. Gwen recording on a Telefunkun microphone. Gabrial has been playing the Jupiter 8 keyboard. Adrian has been doing experimental overdubs. Tony tuned his bass down a whole step for one song. I played an old electric 12-string Rickenbacher on one song.

The Doghouse website is back up online, so check it out if you`d like.
