Hey there! We`ve written about 20 songs since February and the musical feel of this next album is starting to come together. I feel very positive about the quality of the songs. Instead of trying to describe what they`re sounding like, I`ll jsut tell you that our approach has been to ignore any fads or outside pressure, and to focus on the honesty of the sounds that are coming out of us.

Being musicians, we tend to hang out with some very creative and humorous people. We approached one such friend to create a brief written biografie for us. What he wrote, which I will leave to you to interpret as you wish...

We are given a neatral energy, a chi, a perfectly balanced Yin/Yang current on which to operate. If we project negative, we unfold negative, If we project positive. We decide with our will what will unfold from this spiral of experience we call life. What is the meassure of the worth of a life, it is unmeasurable because it comes to us from forever and returns to forever, measured against these unfathomable concepts, life is a precious ephemeral gift, a flash in the pan.

Archievement cannot be measured in material goods ot status for thase are meaningless. Nothing we create can ever compare to the majestry of tree or a mountain, for thse are self perpetuating entities, buildings don`t build themselves.

So of magic occasionally something extra ordinary happens. A group of humans comes together and creates something all involved know is good to the infinite degree. Such is the case with NO DOUBT. Long after the bank accounts are used up and material possessions disinteregrated, the power of millions of humans coming together to celebrate some moments with the music of NO DOUBT will ring through the cosmos touching all with good vibrations.

As if the members of NO DOUBT being born were not magic enough, the coming together of these individuals as a group was an event. TONY KANAL, a young man with a dream, a dedicated son, a savvy businessman, fair and intelligent and a monster on the bass, ADRIAN YOUNG, crazy, a tornado, uncontainabl, funny, godzilla on the kitt, punk to the and. TOM DUMONT, reserved, observing, calculated, yet daring, adding previously unaccepted tones to ska riffs, quietly challenging unwritten rules with skill and aptitude, collector of cool cars. GWEN STEFANI, seducstress of millions , unaware of her charms, unafraid, innocent, caring, funny, fun... a front person with more balls than most. GABRIAL McNAIR, STEPHEN BRADLEY,mc`s of dance, rhythmic solutions, brass, keys, pipes, movement squared.

Was it an accident, or carefully planned event in the cosmos, each individuals expierence leading up to be a band member. Each individuals expierence leading upm to going to a show, buying a cd, millions coming together to join with No Doubt in proclaiming the positive energy of Tragic Kingdom. It has been a wonderful ride, it is a gift for us all. What are they up to? What are you up to? We are all gathering, preparing, expierencing, adding all we have, getting ready for the next record, that we may once again join the parade of infinity, marking out thanks for the gift of life, sending positive vibrations out to the cosmos , joing together with this magic band to say we are here, we ate there, we are here, we are here, and what a glorious place to be !"

We grew up listening to a lot of new wave in the 80`s, and our musical influences have been well publicized in the past. So the amazing thing for us is that in the past weeks we`ve gotten to work with four great artists who were huge in the 80`s. We recorded a song with ELVIS COSTELLO, played a show in Hawaii with MADNESS, GWEN recorded a duet with BRAIN SETZER for his next CD, and yesterday BILLY IDOL came over to the studio and sang some vocal parts with GWEN on our version of " Hateful " for the upcoming CLASH TRIBUTE CD. Amazing ! But despite all of this elbow rubbing (and my name dropping), we`ve been busy writing songs and we`re very anxious to record them ! I`ll drop some more news on our own songs sometime next week.

As I`ve promised there are still many changes in store here on the website, so bear with us for awile and a lot of new stuff is really, truly going to happen here!

We had a great time in Hawaii last week with MADNESS, the VANDALS and CHERRY POPPIN` DADDIES. The last show we played before Hawaii was back in Decmber, so it was nice to get out of the house and rock out ! We tried out a new song, appropriately entitled "NEW", which had a very upbeat new wave sound. After we got home Wednesday the songwriting resumed at the band house.

On Thursday , DAVID KAHNE (who produced "Sublime" and the first five FISHBONE albums) came over and set up all his computer gear in our living room. We started recordingour version of "Hateful" by THE CLASH, for the upcoming CLASH TRIBUTE CD . This is the first time we`ve recorded onto a hard drive rather than analog tape. This digital recording technique is very different from the traditinal way we recorded "I Throw My Toys Around" with ELVIS COSTELLO a couple of weeks ago, where we recorded everything completely live. So far there are no release dates for either of these songs, but I`ll let you know as soon I find something out.

If you`ve ever seen us live or on television you know that our horn section is an instrumental part of the NO DOUBT show. GABE McNAIR (Trombone, Keyboards) and STEVE BRADLEY (trumpet) are highly talented guys who`ve playing with us for many years now. Steve lives in the San Francisco Bay area and has spent the last few months singing for his own band (called Good Live). Gabe lives in Los Angeles and has been hanging around the band house jamming keyboards with us. They played horns on lastest GREEN DAY cd, and will be on our tour playing live with them for the next three weeks, so if Green Day is in concert near you, go chack those guys out !
