Doubt To Tell Fans 'It's My Life' No Doubt's break is over — while singer Gwen Stefani readies her forthcoming solo album, the band hit the studio last week to record a new song for an upcoming greatest-hits album. The band has covered Talk Talk's 1984 hit "It's My Life," which will serve as the single for the collection, due out on November 11. A video for the song is in the works. A new box set will also drop on the same day. "Instead of trying to go in and spend time writing and writing and writing, 'cause we're not doing that right now, we're taking a 'break, ' " Stefani laughed, "we thought it was about time we did a cover song. We've done covers live but we've never done a cover and recorded it and put it out as a single." Just because no writing was involved didn't mean there was no effort, Stefani said. The first task, she said, was deciding which songs to include on Singles 1992 — 2003. "We thought it was going to be so easy," she said, "because that was the idea — 'Let's just do something that's fun and easy, why do we also have to like, torture ourselves.' We went and listened to hundreds of songs, hundreds, and imagine trying to pick one, between the four of us? Oh my god, it was ridiculous." No Doubt's members collectively settled upon Talk Talk's new wave classic because it was a "feel good" song. But then they didn't feel so good about their selection, and started having second thoughts. "We were like, 'I don't know, is this the one? Maybe it would be easier to write one, ' " she said. Producer Nellee Hooper, however, got No Doubt back on track, with a happy end result. "It turned out so good," Stefani said. "I'm so excited about it. It's just insane." No new material will be found in the box set, but Stefani said there doesn't need to be — so many rarities will be included, it'll seem new to most fans — maybe even to the band. "There are tons of B-sides," she said, "weird ones that I don't even have, so I was like, 'Cool, I'm finally going to have that track, I forgot about that one.' " Besides B-sides, the limited-edition box set will include the singles collection, a DVD of the band's music videos and a DVD version of 1997's Live in the Tragic Kingdom. And if that weren't enough, the band is also planning to release "Rock Steady Live," a DVD of a show taped last year in at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach, California. "It's just amazing to us that we're going on over 16 years now," Stefani said. "So it's crazy to look back at all the songs that were on the radio. It's a long list. You almost don't believe it. Scorsese's ``The Aviator'' Starring Leonardo DiCaprio Starts Shooting
in Montreal for Initial Entertainment Group Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, John C. Reilly, Alec Baldwin and Jude Law co-star. Featured are Matt Ross ("Down with Love," "American Psycho"), Adam Scott (TV's "Six Feet Under"), Danny Huston ("Birth"), Alan Alda ("What Women Want," TV's "MASH"), Ian Holm ("The Lord of the Rings," "The Sweet Hereafter"), Kelli Garner ("Confessions of a Dangerous Mind") and No Doubt's Gwen Stefani. An original screenplay by John Logan, "The Aviator" tells the story of aviation pioneer Howard Hughes (DiCaprio), the eccentric billionaire industrialist and Hollywood film mogul, famous for romancing some of the world's most beautiful women. The drama recounts the years of his life from the late 1920s though the 1940s, an epoch when Hughes was directing and producing Hollywood movies and test flying innovative aircraft he designed and created. A daredevil pilot, the most famous flyer since Charles Lindbergh, Hughes became a major force in commercial aviation. He was a mythic figure in the America of his day, imbued with an aura of excitement, glamour and mystery. "The Aviator" looks at Hughes' emotional life, and his love affairs with two Hollywood legends, elegant, Yankee-bred screen star Katharine Hepburn in the 1930s, and the sensual and luminous screen beauty of the 1940s, Ava Gardner. It also chronicles Hughes' struggle with his physical disabilities and phobias, and with his increasingly erratic, obsessive-compulsive behavior that leads him ultimately to isolate himself from his associates and withdraw from the world. Martin Scorsese is the director of over twenty-five films including "Mean Streets," "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," "The Color of Money," "GoodFellas," "The Age of Innocence," "Kundun," "Bringing Out the Dead" and "Gangs of New York," which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. In 1990, Mr. Scorsese and seven other prominent filmmakers created The Film Foundation which serves as an intermediary between the studios and film archives to encourage the restoration and preservation of films in their libraries. Mr. Scorsese is the recipient of the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award and was also honored with a tribute from the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Leonardo DiCaprio starred in two of 2002's biggest hits, Mr. Scorsese's "Gangs of New York" and Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can." He previously starred in James Cameron's "Titanic," one of the most successful films in motion picture history and winner of twelve Academy Awards. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" Among his other films are "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet," "Marvin's Room" and "The Beach." Cate Blanchett will soon be seen in Ron Howard's "The Missing" and Joel Schumacher's "Veronica Guerin." Golden Globe winner for "Elizabeth," she has also appeared in "The Lord of the Rings," "Bandits" and "Heaven." Kate Beckinsale recently co-starred in "The Golden Bowl," "Pearl Harbor" and "Serendipity." Upcoming are "Van Helsing" and "Underworld." John C. Reilly received a 2002 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in "Chicago," appearing in three of that year's Best Picture nominees, "Chicago," "Gangs of New York" and "The Hours." Other credits include "Magnolia" and "The Perfect Storm." Alec Baldwin completed filming "The Cat in the Hat" and "Providence." Among his recent films are "Pearl Harbor" and "State and Main." Jude Law, Oscar-nominated for "The Talented Mr. Ripley," appears in two upcoming films, "Cold Mountain" and "The World of Tomorrow." John Logan received an Academy Award nomination for his screenplay for the Oscar winning film "Gladiator." His other credits include "The Time Machine," "The Last Samurai," "Any Given Sunday" and "RKO 281." Scorsese reunites on "The Aviator" with several longtime collaborators. Director of Photography is Robert Richardson who worked with the director on "Casino" and "Bringing Out the Dead." Richardson has shot several Oliver Stone films, including "Platoon," "JFK" and "Nixon," and most recently photographed Quentin Tarantino's upcoming "Kill Bill." Production designer Dante Ferretti, a seven-time Academy Award nominee, previously designed five films for Scorsese, "The Age of Innocence," "Casino," "Kundun," "Bringing Out the Dead" and "Gangs of New York." His other credits include "Interview with the Vampire," "Baron Munchausen," "Pier Paolo Pasolini's Decameron" and "Federico Fellini's City of Women." Costume designer Sandy Powell is an Academy Award winner for "Shakespeare In Love" and Academy Award nominee the same year for "Velvet Goldmine." "Wings of the Dove," for which she was also nominated for an Oscar, and "Far From Heaven" are among her many other credits. Set decorator Francesca Lo Schiavo has collaborated with Dante Ferretti for many years, most recently on Anthony Minghella's "Cold Mountain," as well as "Gangs of New York," "Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet," "Baron Munchausen" and "Federico Fellini's And the Ship Sails On." Editor Thelma
Schoonmaker received an Academy Award and a British Film Academy Award
(BAFTA) for her work on Mr. Scorsese's "Raging Bull." She subsequently
edited all his films, including his documentaries "A Personal Journey
with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies" and "Il Mio Viaggio
in Italia."

Griggs Finally
An Update! Sorry it's been such a long time since I’ve posted. I wanted to say hello and fill you in on what we have been up to lately. Even though we are taking some time off from performing we have all been keeping pretty busy. As you know, in addition to working on her own album, Gwen has been getting her clothing line LAMB ready for a Spring 2004 launch. She also just filmed the first portion of her role in the film "The Aviator" directed by Martin Scorcese. Tom has been surfing and working in his home studio with the talented Matt Costa. Go to mattcosta.com to check out some of the tunes they did together. Adrian has been hitting the celebrity pro-golf circuit, playing with Gabe's band OLSO (osloband.com) and also rehearsing with the amazing Bow Bow Wow. If you live in Southern California you can see him play drums with them on September 20 at KROQ's Inland Invasion III show in Devore (check out kroq.com for more details). As for me, I have been working in my home studio as well, helping Gwen with her album and writing with my friend Elan Atias for his album. Now to the band…we have been working on getting a bunch of stuff together. Firstly, we are going to be releasing our "Singles 1992-2003" CD. We're in the studio this week with producer Nellee Hooper recording a cover version of one our favorite 80's songs for it. We also just completed putting together the "Rock Steady Live" DVD which features one of last year's Long Beach Arena shows as well as tons of bonus stuff. Also in the works is a limited edition box set which will include the "Singles 1992-2003" CD, a DVD featuring all our of videos, "Live In The Tragic Kingdom" on DVD (yes, finally!), and a "B-Sides & Rare Tracks" CD which may also include a couple of unreleased tracks (yes, New Friend should be on there as well). We're hoping to get all of this stuff out by the end of the year. We'll keep you posted with release dates once we know them for sure. Take care,

Stefani Works On Solo LP With Outkast, Missy Elliott Sure, she's already collaborated with Eve, but if two of her more recent partnerships are any indication, Gwen Stefani is in even more of a hip-hop state of mind than previously expected as she continues to work on her solo debut. Outkast and Missy Elliott spilled the beans on their collaborations to MTV News at this year's VMAs, but both stressed that the No Doubt singer's album is still a work in progress (see "Gwen Stefani Recording Solo Material") and that their contributions may not make the final cut. They also said they're encouraged by Stefani's open-mindedness in exploring new directions. "I think the album will sound totally different than her No Doubt stuff," Outkast's Andre 3000 said. "And that's cool. Step out and do something new sometime. It could be interesting." Outkast said the tracks they've already submitted were "some of the strangest stuff" they could, just to encourage Stefani along the road not usually taken. "It's kinda like mid-tempo, like Outkast," Big Boi said, "but something you wouldn't normally hear her on. ... You just submit something that you think might cause them to switch to something new, something where they don't do their usual [thing] on it, something where they sound a little different. Give it to her and see how she's freaking it and [how] she brings it back." One track, "Long Way to Go," is designed as a duet about interracial relationships. Andre had intended it for his own solo album (one CD's worth of Outkast's upcoming double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below). "We thought it would be a cool concept," he said, "talking about a girl that didn't have the same color as your skin, but it's a cooler concept for her album." As for Elliott, she said that she and Stefani were still discussing concepts and didn't have any finished tracks yet. "She came down to the studio and we vibed instantly, worked out a couple of ideas" she said. "But she's still figuring out her direction, so I'm waiting on her at the moment." Elliott — who is never at a loss for projects to keep her busy — also has plenty of patience and doesn't mind waiting. "When we get together, when she does this record, it's not going to be just another record," Elliott said. "It's going to be an event." And in case Stefani is at a loss for ideas, the boys in Duran Duran have welcomed her to try out a few with them, since they wouldn't mind including her on their own upcoming record. "[Collaborators], that stuff is always going to be in the cards," Simon LeBon said. "That's usually a matter of luck and people's schedules being able to allow it." "It also has to work musically," Andy Taylor said. "We're not just going to bring someone in because they're Gwen Stefani ..." "Oh, I would!" LeBon laughed. —Jennifer Vineyard, with additional reporting by Corey Moss and SuChin Pak Gwen

FRIEND Now we are 21 months (A year and 9 months) after Rock Steady`s release and suddenly a Full version of New Friend appeared on the web. The song sounds very natural. It`s has a driving beat on keyboard, witch nicely supported by guitar. The drums take a nice part of the sound. Sometimes you can hear some mixing and well as guest appearances of some unknown artists at the moment. At the end of the song, you can hear the song In My Head. In support of No Doubt we don`t provide a MP3 on our site, that you can download. Meet
