| Clearing
up some confusion... I hope everyone is doing okay out there. I've been having fun with my new baby, I'm an expert diaper changer now. There seems
to be some confusion out there, because the press has picked up on the
Band Journal here, dated 5/2 which states that Tony, Adrian and I have
been writing songs in the studio lately. Yes we have been working on music,
and yes without Gwen, but that's because she's 9 months pregnant and resting
up to give birth very soon. We're writing and recording music to be collborated
on with Gwen at a later date, after she's had plenty of time to settle
into being a new Mom. Anyway the point is that we're writing music with
Gwen's blessing for No Doubt, which obviously includes Gwen. No Doubt
is not broken up, of course Gwen is still in the band, and it's been that
way for about 20 years now. Okay, I hope that's clear enough. All the
best and take care No Doubters... |

Stefani breaks finger While trying to save the fabric, Gwen's finger was bent back and snapped leaving shrieking in pain. A source is quoted in Britain's Mirror newspaper as saying: "Gwen was up against a deadline and was hurriedly putting some new samples together. She forgot to lock down the settings and the material ripped, so she tried to save it." Gwen - who is eight months pregnant with her first child - was rushed to hospital by her husband, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. Doctors have revealed that she suffered a fracture and a brace was put on the damaged digit to aid the healing process. |

Doubt — Minus Gwen — In Early Stages Of New Album "I wouldn't even say this album is in its infancy," he said. "Its conception, if anything. ... It's so super-early on." Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young have regrouped to work on demos together, while Stefani sits out until she gives birth ("She's due pretty soon," Kanal said; see "Gwen Stefani Confirms Pregnancy While Onstage In Florida"). But Kanal's hesitant even to call the new material "songs," since some of the tunes are just in the idea stage. "We're easing into it," he said. "We're taking it very slowly, kind of just going in and writing here and there." But as laid-back as that sounds, the excitement is in the air, since the band's latest collection of new material, Rock Steady, was released way back in 2001. (No Doubt's last offering was a cover of Talk Talk's "It's My Life" for a greatest-hits album). "Right now, it's all about the music and being as creative as possible," Kanal said. So what do the new songs sound like? Kanal said it's too early to tell. And besides, the bandmembers aren't about to map out a destination point just yet — they'd rather just explore all the back roads, shortcuts and scenic views while they can. "We've been doing this so long that if we try to set a place to go to, we'll never get there," Kanal said. "So we're letting that road unfold in front of us. I'm sure we'll have the same influences, all the reggae and rock stuff we grew up on, and a bunch more, so we can go in a different direction as well." One of those different directions could stem from the experience Kanal had executive producing Elan's forthcoming reggae debut, Together as One, an album Stefani also contributed to with the song "All Nighter" (see "No Doubt's Tony Kanal Spends Band's Hiatus Producing Reggae LP, Remixing Gwen"). "It's always a learning process, every time you work with someone," Kanal said. "You take a bit of what their history is and hopefully you give a little back." — Jennifer Vineyard, with additional reporting by Yasmine Richard ------------------------------------- Former Wailers frontman Elan — who is putting together his debut solo album, Together as One, with help from No Doubt's Tony Kanal — pulled an "All Nighter" with Gwen Stefani. "It's about a girl and a guy, and how they first meet," he explained of the reggae song they recorded. "I compare it to 'Summer Lovin' ' in 'Grease.' It's like a dancehall version. Gwen DJs a bit on it on the back end of the chorus." Gwen fans needn't worry that their girl is changing her style. "She didn't go into a hard-core Lady Saw voice," Elan explained. "She did it like Gwen, her own way." Lack
