CG: You're putting out such a strong vibe of happiness and positivity that this must have been an amazing year for you. We heard you even moved into a new house!
GWEN: I'm not used to living by myself. I lived at my parents and then on a tour bus for years. Then I got this house and I moved in with my sister. But my sister just moved out, so it's crazy. She got married in my backyard last week, so she's on her honeymoon. My boyfriend [that'd be Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of Bush] just left. I try to pretend I'm not scared, but my house isn't tiny, so I get scared. This is my first time living alone, these last two days. CG: Are you looking forward to living alone? GWEN: Oh, dude. I love it! Usually there's a mess, and I'm a slob. I walk in and I'm like ?no one's been here, and there are my things just like I left them ... cool! Right now, I ran in the house, peed, took off my shorts that I had over my bathing suit, left them in my bathroom, and walked around in my bathing suit. I love it because I've always been really disorganized. CG: Are you looking forward to eating whatever YOU want, now that you live alone? GWEN: Well, I don't have any food in the house now. But when my boyfriend's here, he's an amazing cook. He makes really good pasta sauces, and does roast chicken really good too! He puts his heart into it--he's so passionate. He's all about fresh herbs and all that stuff, so it tastes really good. He never even had lessons! Oh man, it's so great! I love to eat, so it's a perfect situation. And he doesn't even mind that I just sit on the couch and watch TV while he does it. But I set the table. Well, he usually helps with that too. He's a good boyfriend. CG: Since your ex, Tony, is in the band, is that weird? How do he and Gavin get along? GWEN: Gavin's always been mature about it. If I was in his position, I don't know if I could be as cool. There's some weirdness sometimes, but hardly ever anymore. We all go out together. And Tony wants me to be happy, I mean we both want it. We got to this other place, and I would never have believed it could have happened. But we're such good friends and hang out almost every day. We had a passion that we couldn't ignore, which was the band and our music, and we had that to keep us friends. We wanted to continue doing the music. Well, it's not that we wanted to, we couldn't help ourselves -- we had to. We loved it so much that even though it was painful for us during that period, it empowered me. To the whole him-breaking-up-with-me thing, I say thank you, because it really gave me a gift. I didn't know that I could write songs before that, and now I can. I feel so lucky. I don't ever believe I can do it until after I write a song, then all the sudden I'll be like '[Bleep]! I just wrote another one!' and I'll be so happy. They make me happy-the songs-you know? CG!: Gwen, they make A LOT of us happy! |
